Job Description
The staff will be responsible for handling, patient care in the department and its associated administrative tasks. The dental assistant will also collaborate with doctors, supportive service staff, and administrative staff and ensure smooth functioning of the department. The staffs are expected to ensure quality and safe patient care as per the vision and mission of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Providing quality patient care.
- Preparing patients for dental procedures.
- Sterilizing and disinfecting instruments, setting up instrument trays, preparing materials, and assisting with dental procedures.
- Assist the Dentist during treatment as per their instructions.
- Assist dental hygienists in the procedures when necessary.
- Guide the patient according to the prescribed Doctor’s notes for procedures and investigations.
- Maintaining and recording Patient treatments.
- Assist the dentist in taking dental x-rays.
- Managing/caring for dental x-ray and other equipment.
- Giving information to patients on dental hygiene, oral health care, and plaque control programs.
- Ensure the vitals are taken and reported accurately.
- Providing postoperative instructions as directed by the dentist.
- Ordering dental supplies and maintaining dental equipment inventory.
- Ensure that the ordered medication is administered correctly.
- Anticipate the needs of patients who are waiting for consultation with the doctor.
- Spot patient discomfort and take appropriate measures to alleviate their concerns.
- Work strictly within the scope of nursing care.
- Responsible for additional activities assigned by the Immediate supervisor in relation with the current job roles.
- Insurance claim processing.
- Ensure that procedures requiring pre-approvals are taken always before the commencement of treatment/procedures.
- Ensure that insurance claims are processed without mistakes and handed over to the designated staff without delay.
- Assist doctors in completing medical records and insurance claim forms.
- Immediately bring attention to the Manager in case there is disparity between the medical records and insurance claim form.
- Ensure that appropriate patient consent form is explained to the patient and get them signed before the commencement of treatment.
- Ensure that the patient is given the right counselling on the importance of taking medication at the dose and frequency stipulated by the doctor.
- Encourage patients to contact Clinic in case of any adverse reactions or emergency.
- Encourage patients to procure medication from our pharmacies.
- Provide information and promote all departments, doctors, and diagnostic facilities available within the clinic to the patients.
- Ensure and dispose of clinical waste according to the Bio Medical Waste management system.
- Ensure hand hygiene through regular hand washing and usage of alcohol rub.
- Must wear personal protective equipment such as gloves while dealing with patients, especially handling body fluids.
- Ensure the treatment room and the patient bed/Dental Chair is always clean.
- Place hazard signs wherever there is a spillage of liquid or body fluids.
- Clean and disinfect any spillage of body fluids area.
- Non-disposable trays and equipment should be stowed away for sterilization before re-using them again.
- Always maintain patient confidentiality.
- Coordinate/monitor/ensure the sample testing of dental water and environmental culture as per infection control standards to maintain the records for MOH/DHA regulations compliance.
- Assess environmental control through surveillance of water supply systems as needed and air pressure relationships for high-risk environmental monitoring.
- Ensure the steps for emergency management for Cardiopulmonary Event.
- Ensure correct Airway Management and correct chest compressions.
Qualifications
Bachelor/ Diploma or related experience in dental is required. MOH License – Dental Technician.
