Education and Training:
- Ensure relevant training and competency is undertaken to deliver care safely.
- Maintain up-to-date mandatory training requirements.
- Follow and comply with the NMC Nurse Competency Matrix / Framework, relevant to their role profile.
- Be willing to learn new clinical skills and actively contribute to the learning culture through attendance of journal clubs and professional development programs.
- Support and supervise pre-registration and new nurses and other health care workers when required.
- Participate in teaching, mentorship and preceptorship when required.
- Participate in clinical supervision of student nurses, newly graduated nurses, newly hired experienced nurses, return to practice nurses and nurses undergoing cross-training or upskilling.
- Participate in Performance Improvement Plans when required.
- Share knowledge and skill with others, to improve patient care and services.
- Ensure they are skilled, trained and competent before using any medical device.
- Involve patients in their own healthcare and recovery through education, awareness and positive reinforcement.
Nurse Manager will:
- Ensure nurses deliver safe and high-quality patient care and have a proactive attitude towards the patients and their families.
- Develop and provide support to the Nurse-in-Charge, Nurse Supervisors in leading a team of Assistant and Registered nurses.
- Evaluate nursing activities to ensure safe patient care, good caregiver relations and operational efficiency.
- Perform direct clinical nursing care when required, mandating the requirement to wear NMC nursing uniform.
- Conduct regular clinical rounds with nursing and other members of the inter-professional team.
- Conduct regular clinical rounds talking with patients and patient bystanders being cared for within their clinical areas, to support patient experience. Action and execute patient feedback to support a positive patient experience.
- Improve the operational systems, service processes and policies in support NMC mission. More specifically to support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning.
- Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope such as but not limited to Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation etc.
- Establish, plan, implement and monitor KPIs that are relevant to the business and department(s).
- Liaise with multiple stakeholders regarding the suitability of clinical equipment, inventory supplies and contribute to product evaluation.
- Participate as a team member of Quality Management team in implementing standard operating procedures and protocols relating to patient care services.
- Participate and lead in internal clinical audits and communicate to the clinical team to improve and change practice, reporting to the Director of Nursing.
- Develop policies and procedures relating to patient care.
- Develop clinical skill assessment tools and participate in the assessment of caregivers to ensure safe evidence-based care.
- Participate in annual budget and manpower planning and monitor spending.
- Provide management reports on patient care records and statistics, when required.
- Manages Caregivers appraisals, performance focus and evaluates training needs analysis in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and the Nurse Educator
- Identifies issues, taking a lead role in managing complaints, review, audit process to highlight concerns regarding patient care.
- Provide coverage when other Nurse Managers or the Director of Nursing is on leave.
The Nurse Manager Education will:
- Manage and direct the team within Medical Professional Training Centre (MPTC) including a team of Specialist Clinical Educators, Specialist Life Support Instructors, Assistant Manager, and an Education Assistant, within a purpose-built clinical simulation centre and across the wider NMC network.
- Lead and implement the NMC Nursing Midwifery Education Strategy, aligning to the NMC Clinical Strategy.
- Lead the NMC Nursing & Midwifery Clinical Excellence Program, reporting to the AVP Nursing Transformation.
- Support the team develop and implement educational programs as required across the NMC network.
- Develop, implement, and embed nurse education KPIs for MPTC and the wider NMC network.
- Lead the NMC Nurse Midwifery Competency Framework and matrix with oversight of the Competency Platform.
- Lead regular, consistent, and systematic review of educational programs, linking to learning needs and patient quality outcomes.
- Adapt the educational framework and work with facilities in response to sentinel and serious adverse incidents.
- Support and conduct multiple clinical specialist site visits across the NMC network and escalate observations to DONs and GMs for action.
- Support and uphold American Heart Association (AHA) International Training Centre certification of MPTC.
- Manage oversight, quality adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards with internal audit and quality assurance of educational programs within MPTC and across the NMC Network.
- Devise operational and capital budgetary requirements. Ensuring budgetary compliance and essential adjustments are made in a timely manner.
- Build internal and external stakeholder engagement, within a positive working environment.
- Support and lead the team with Student Nurses, Transition to Practice Nurses and Gap in Practice Nurses.
- Direct professional development of the team and maintain individual educator requirements and professional development.
- Direct the growth and development of MPTC inclusive of the simulation centre and simulation accreditations.
- Role model the positive practice environment by conducting team appraisals and advocating supportive leadership strategies. Â
- Direct oversight of the team’s operational requirement (training calendar, annual training reports, training requirements and logistics, materials, consumables, and resources)
- Collaborate and support the DONs with clinical education requests, nursing students, transition to practice nurses/midwives, gap in practice nurses/midwives and nursing/midwifery interns.
- Adhere to the American Nurses Credentialing Centre (ANCC) accreditation of MPTC, as guided by the Accredited Provider Program Director (AP-PD).
- Lead, support, mentor and grow the NMC Nurse Educator Network.
- Develop and maintain regular activity reports and lead the NMC Nursing Midwifery Educator Database / Dashboard.
- Lead collaborative efforts with multi-disciplinary team members of service lines and specialized committees across the NMC network.
Qualifications
Essential: the post holder must
- Have an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.
- Have evidenced experience in managing multiple departments and teams.
- Be able to influence and implement change when necessary.
- Be able to make decisions and communicate effectively.
- Manage their own professional re-licensure.
- Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.
- Be willing to work across departments when necessary.
- Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written)
- Previous management experience as an Education Manager or Assistant Education Manager.
DESIRABLE: The post holder should have:
- Evidenced experience/expertise in the clinical field in which they are employed
- Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter-professional team
- Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
