Job Description

  1. Specialized Knowledge/Skills
    1. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served.
    2. Demonstrate ability to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
    3. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.  This includes: pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
    4. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain.  Utilize appropriate pain management techniques.  Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
    5. Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
    6. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
    7. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
    8. Ability to identify and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicates with Social Service/Discharge Planner regarding both in hospital and post discharge needs.
    9. Knowledge of documentation based on current standards.
    10. With Excellent interpersonal skills.
    11. Able to communicate effectively in English and Arabic. 
    12. Basic computer knowledge.
  1. Role in Quality and Patient Safety
    1. Participates to unit-based quality projects and quality management activities.
    2. Participate in quality improvement activities of the organization (Accreditation, quality improvement initiatives, performance measures).
    3. Attends quality improvement and patient safety related education and training.
    4. Compliance to the international patient safety goals (IPSG) and required organizational practice (ROP).
    5. Cooperate and participate in the survey activities (Staff Satisfaction, Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture, Learning Needs Assessment, Communication Needs Assessment) of the organization.

Responsibilities

  1. Competently and accurately assesses patients and identifies actual and potential nursing diagnosis/patient care needs
  2. Competently plans and prioritizes age and provide appropriate care for identified patient group.
  3. Safely and properly delivers age and specialty appropriate nursing care to identified patient group.
  4. Evaluates the patient/family response and outcome(s) to implement care and modifies the plan accordingly.
  5. Competently, professionally, timely and consistently completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation of hospital records (administrative and clinical) and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  6. Practices and promotes positive customer and peer relations.
  7. Utilizes nursing research and quality improvement to enhance practice.
  8. Responsible in performing all patients care and carries out administrative responsibilities as delegated by Head Nurse.
  9. Meets with Shift in charge and head nurse to discuss staffing and work routines, patient care, policies and procedures, regulations, problems and grievances.
  10. Keeps head nurse informed about patients, activities of department, problems and needs in assigned work area.
  11. Assist and participates with orientation, instruction and supervision of subordinate in assigned area and assumes responsibility for the unit in absence of the head nurse.
  12. Performs duties as required:
    1. Receive reports.
    2. Admits and orients patients and family.
    3. Performs a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.  This includes: pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
    4. Review and revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
    5. Perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures interpret results of waived tests; take appropriate action on waived tests results.
    6. Assist physicians with procedures which include but not limited to: Lumbar puncture
      1. Performs and assists in performing specific Nursing procedures which include but not limited to:
        1. Blood transfusion
        2. Blood extraction and IV insertion
        3. Pre and post-operative care
        4. Urinary catheter insertion
        5. Wound dressing
        6. Arranges for diagnostic and therapeutic service as ordered.
        7. Send/ place diet orders to dietary department.
        8. Follows the ten-medication administration protocol and reduces the potential for medication errors.
        9. Assembles patient chart and attached required forms.
        10. Takes and transcribe physician order.
        11. Adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilise appropriate pain management techniques.  Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
        12. Consults physician when necessary.
        13.  Schedules appointment and arranges for patient transportation in other department for care of services.
        14.  See the equipment are clean and in good working condition prior to use.
        15.  Maintain controlled and Narcotic drugs.
        16.  Completes unit forms and registers.
        17.  Gathers required statistics and prepares reports as required
        18. Observes proper technique in the performance of all duties.
        19. Makes patients rounds, evaluates patient condition.
      2. Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
      3. Cooperate and assist department concern in the implementation of patient and family education policy and procedure
      4. Formulates and delivers a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate
      5. Maintain the cleanliness of department following infection control protocols
      6. Monitor hospital environment for compliance with Infection Control policy and Procedure.
      7. Demonstrate awareness of fire/equipment hazards and the necessary precautions to be activated as per hospital policy.
      8. Maintain all documents of MSDS, HAZMAT in coordination with FMS Team
      9. Actively support Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities policy and procedure of the organization.
      10. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.  Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
      11. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.

Qualifications

  1. Qualified Registered Nurse
  2. Current License from DHA to practice in Dubai UAE
  3. License from the Country of Origin (if applicable).
  4. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate.
  5. Minimum 2 years nursing experience after qualification.
