Job Description

Position Overview:

To provide a comprehensive paediatric service for King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai.

The post-holder will:

  • Be independently responsible for the diagnosis and management of patients attending King’s College Hospital & Clinics (KCH) London UAE with conditions requiring paediatric expertise.
  • Manage a caseload which includes a wide range of health conditions within King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai facilities providing outpatient, inpatient and day case treatments.
  • Ensure the highest standards of care for all patients.
  • Adhere to the manifesto of care expected of all physicians at King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai.

Key Accountabilities:

Clinical

  • Provide an expert opinion, investigate and manage patients who attend King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai with known or suspected disorders requiring paediatric expertise.
  • Diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice in paediatrics.
  • Review the results of all investigations in a timely fashion and modify treatment as required.
  • Comply with the established King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai practices regarding outpatient consultations, day care, inpatient and discharge protocols, and follow up.
  • Comply with the requirements of the regulatory UAE medical health authorities with respect to all professional practices.
  • Perform necessary interventional procedures and ensure approval has been obtained from the relevant healthcare insurance company prior to performing such procedures.
  • Accurately document all relevant patient information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai health record keeping policy.
  • Communicate medical information to patients and the patients’ families.
  • Liaise with other medical and surgical specialities and professional support services for additional input as required.
  • Accept appropriate referrals from other speciality Medical Centres, walk-in patients and patients referred from other Hospitals & Clinics.
  • Work effectively and efficiently within the team structure of the King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai treatment centre by maintaining a good working relationship with other members of staff, promoting collaboration and adopting a team-based approach to patient care.
  • Implement, support and follow Hospital & Clinics and clinics’ initiatives, policies and procedures.
  • Practice only within the privileges granted by King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai and UAE medical health authorities.
  • Take part in the medical cover on call Rota as required.

Clinical Governance & Personal Development

  • Attend all relevant clinical meetings unless on approved leave.
  • Participate fully in all aspects of clinical governance making a significant contribution to clinical audit and risk management activities.
  • Take an active role in identifying and reporting clinical risk.
  • Contribute to standard setting within the organisation.
  • Commit to continual personal development (CPD) and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice is followed.
  • Maintain own CPD through attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure that professional development requirements are met. Attend training and events organised by the Hospital & Clinics/clinic or other agencies, where appropriate.
  • Take responsibility for individual learning, development and performance and be willing to demonstrate professional activities and skills to peer reviewers.
  • Ensure that a record is maintained of professional development activities in order to inform annual appraisal.
  • Maintain a log book of all clinical and surgical activities which can be used as evidence when applying for re-licensing.
  • Participate in an annual individual appraisal/performance review.
  • Promote personal health and safety and security and that of other employees as defined in King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai Health & Safety Policy.
  • Follow Good Medical Practice guidance as issued by the UAE medical health authorities and the UK General Medical Council.

Administrative

  • Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
  • Comply with the UAE medical health authorities’ requirements in order to maintain medical license.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of computer-based patient records.
  • Ensure confidentiality in all aspects of data management relating to patients, carers, colleagues, and other healthcare workers.
  • Maintain business confidentiality outside the organisation with respect to financial, clinical and administrative activities of King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai.

Managerial

  • Assist the Clinical/Medical Director, Deputy CMO and CMO with recruitment of new staff when required.
  • Assume other administrative or clinical duties as needed.
  • Be willing to deputise and delegate when appropriate.
  • Support colleagues with the smooth running of the Hospital & Clinics by providing cover and assistance, during periods of absence.
  • Welcome calls (although infrequent) from the management team, and physician on duty while out of working hours.
  • Participate in an on-call rota for King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai.
  • Assist in the financial management of King’s College Hospital & Clinics-Dubai by:

-Working effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients’ needs.

-Utilising the organisation’s resources appropriately and efficiently.

-Whilst at all times looking ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to agreed standards continually review working practices to provide the most efficient use of resources.

Quality

  • Strive to maintain quality in clinical care, alert other team members to issues of quality, and participate in quality improvement activity.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on personal and team activities and identifying potential improvements.
  • Adhere to Hospital & Clinics Policies and Procedures e.g. JCI, Code Blue, infection control, working hours and overtime.
  • Comply with Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices in a safe working environment.

Communication

  • Recognise the importance of effective communication with patients, carers, and other team members.
  • Recognise the need for alternative methods of communication in individuals and respond accordingly.

Training & Medical Education:

  • The applicant will be expected to take an active role in teaching and training
  • To contribute to regular CME events in the organisation.

Business Development

  • Participate in business development and marketing initiatives, as required

Education & Qualification, Experience, Training & Knowledge:

  • MBBS or MD
  • CCT or completion of a recognised specialist training programme desired.
  • UAE Medical Health Authority License
  • Resuscitation as per the specialty.
  • Has worked in Hospital & Clinics or similar setting for at least 2 years
  • Preferably Russian speaking
